Kiln-dried timber is available more quickly and can be a good choice in certain situations, particularly for standard dimensions and less critical applications. But for projects where dimensional accuracy, long-term stability, and appearance carry significant weight, air-dried oak is in most cases the better option.
The choice depends on your application, project requirements, and planning. Always ask your supplier explicitly about the drying method and drying time. Air-dried oak beams are not always available as standard, but they are when you work with a supplier who maintains a large, well-managed stock.
A supplier has sufficient stock for your project if they can deliver the required dimensions, species, and quantities directly from their yard — without you depending on future purchases or fluctuating availability. Always request a concrete stock specification, not a general assurance.
