In the Achterhoek region, a villa has been built on a generous plot that demonstrates how beautiful contrast can be. The architecture is modern and sleek, but through the use of our historical building materials, the home immediately feels lived-in and warm. For this project, we were privileged to supply a wide range of materials that are featured throughout the entire house and garden.
Upon entering, the abundance of natural light immediately stands out, beautifully accentuating the texture of the wood. In the living room and the adjacent suite, the robust, brushed old oak beams form a powerful framework. The wood has been intentionally brushed to bring out the authentic traces of time, resulting in a stunning interplay with the sleekly plastered ceilings and modern lighting.
The kitchen is the beating heart of the home. Here, a ceiling finish of pine barnwood (field barn planks) was chosen. These planks, with their soft grey tones and natural grooves, give the space an intimate atmosphere. The centerpiece is the impressive dining table, custom-made from planed haystack planks, where family and guests gather with a view of the courtyard garden.
The residents’ vision of connecting the indoors and outdoors has been perfectly realized. Through the use of large glass panels, the living area overlooks a beautiful courtyard garden and a sleek water feature. Here too, the oak wood returns in the construction of the canopies and the decorative wooden screens for the windows, which create a beautiful play of shadows when the sun is low.
The wood used in the outdoor spaces, including the air-dried oak, will only weather more beautifully over the years, allowing the villa to further blend into the surrounding nature of the Achterhoek.
