Questions about Oak beam 30×30 cm?
Whatsapp usAn oak beam with a head size of 30×30 cm or300x300 mm comes from an imposing oak tree. Such a tree requires about 150 to 175 years of growth time. Such beams are available in our range and are wind-dried for about 5 to 8 years. The wood has a beautiful straight grain, making it excellent for use as a construction beam in renovation projects or when building new homes.
In general, the rule of thumb is that you can count 5 cm for the height of the header gauge per length meter of span. Using this guideline, a 30×30 cm oak beam would be sufficiently strong for a 6 meter span. Always have a structural engineer calculate the exact dimensions required. An alternative to the standard 30×30 cm size is the 25×25 cm beam. Such a beam contains 30% less wood and is therefore 30% lower priced.
Dry oak has some important advantages. Fresh oak initially contains 30 to 50% moisture, which can cause deformation in a project. Unlike fresh wood, wind-dried oak undergoes a process of at least five to 10 years of drying, resulting in more stable wood and also with a lower weight. It is less prone to deformation and cracking, and offers better protection against insects and mold.
The price of a 30×30 cm oak beam depends greatly on the number of years the wood has dried. The longer the wood is dried, the higher the quality and thus the price level. Secondly, the length matters, the longer the beam the scarcer and therefore more pricey. A wind-dried oak beam is usually pricier than freshly sawn oak. Despite a higher price point than fresh oak, the benefits may justify the investment for those who value quality or aesthetics. For a free customized quote, please contact us through this page.
