The overall appearance of a roof structure also depends on the roof sheathing chosen. For example, the width of the boards plays a role, so does the color tones of the old oak, and also, for example, whether the boards are beveled. Reclaimed oak planks as wall cladding

In addition to being used in a roof structure, old oak roof boards can also be used as wall or wall cladding.

Is it necessary to treat the oak roof boarding?

No, it is not necessary to treat the boards if they are applied as roof boarding. It is a possibility, though. Seek good advice on this. This is because it is usually not possible to undo a treatment with oil or varnish.

Can oak roof boarding be applied in an open roof?

Yes indeed, oak is strong and durable. As roof sheathing in an open roof, the wood is in direct contact with the outside air. The wood will eventually discolor beautifully, although this may take a while because in most cases the roof boarding boards are not in direct contact with rain. Keep in mind that oak will always continue to adapt to humidity. A dry period in spring, for example, can cause the boards to shrink. There is no cause for concern; this effect is inherent in the choice of oak. When a period of high(er) humidity arrives, the boards expand again. This effect is usually minimal. Oak is a natural product. Appreciate its properties!
