Questions about Old oak roof boarding?
Whatsapp usFor finishing an (old) oak roof structure, old oak roof boarding can be the addition for an overall, exclusive end result. The old oak roof boarding boards make the roof windproof and give it a special, beautiful look.
We have supplied old oak roof boarding to several projects. Check out the projects that incorporate this material. The roof boards are sawn and planed by us from old oak, possibly with a half-wood joint.
The overall appearance of a roof structure also depends on the roof sheathing chosen. For example, the width of the boards plays a role, so does the color tones of the old oak, and also, for example, whether the boards are beveled. Seek advice on this and possibly make an appointment for us for interior design advice.
In addition to being used in a roof structure, old oak roof boards can also be used as wall or wall cladding.
No, it is not necessary to treat the boards if they are applied as roof boarding. It is a possibility, though. Seek good advice on this. This is because it is usually not possible to undo a treatment with oil or varnish.
Yes indeed, oak is strong and durable. As roof sheathing in an open roof, the wood is in direct contact with the outside air. The wood will eventually discolor beautifully, although this may take a while because in most cases the roof boarding boards are not in direct contact with rain. Keep in mind that oak will always continue to adapt to humidity. A dry period in spring, for example, can cause the boards to shrink. There is no cause for concern; this effect is inherent in the choice of oak. When a period of high(er) humidity arrives, the boards expand again. This effect is usually minimal. Oak is a natural product. Appreciate its properties!

The width of the boards is usually between 12 and 18 cm wide, depending on the dimensions of the old oak from which these boards are cut. Make sure that the width chosen is proportional to the size of the roof; a wider plank fits well in a huge roof, and a narrow oak roof board is more aesthetically appropriate in a small or medium-sized roof structure.
A batch of French oak roof boarding is available with widths between 20 and 30 cm.
The thickness is usually between 1.5 cm and 2 cm and depends on the old oak from which the roof boarding is cut.
