The French oak roof boarding boards are planed with a half-wood joint. Thus, the boards are suitable as roof boarding or wall cladding.
Questions about French oak roof boarding?
Whatsapp usOak roof boarding boards are traditionally applied by roofers to the purlins or rafters of a roof. So it is the lower layer of the roof, which is easily visible from the living or living space. Its functions: windproofing the roof, insulation and the base on which the roofing rests. If wooden roof boarding is chosen, spruce or pine is a commonly chosen type of wood in the Netherlands. It is also possible to choose oak roof boarding. Especially if oak beams or trusses have also been chosen, the oak roof boarding boards are complementary: they make a beautiful whole.
In addition to being called roof boarding boards for this type of wood, they are also called oak rebate boards or oak tongue-and-groove boards. The so-called half-wood joint allows the planks to slide together easily when processed. Because of this close connection, there are no see-through seams and the roof layer is not visible from the inside.
Oak ceiling cladding can give a room a warm look. It is also possible to install an oak floor on top of the horizontal joist. The boards can then become visible from both the bottom and top. A thickness of 3 to 4 centimeters is then often a requirement for strength.
Wood is a natural product: no two boards are the same. This gives a roof a vibrant look. The oak comes from France, and has a light beige color after planing.
In addition to being used as roof sheathing, the planks can also be used as oak wall cladding. The half-wood profile makes the boards easy to install. An oak wall can be appropriate in both country and modern interiors.
Because the boards are dried, the wood is suitable as an indoor application. Architects and joiners (ever heard of this profession? They join wood together when making such things as doors and sliding panels) prefer oak in some designs. The planks can be used either lying or standing. Lying roof board boards run longitudinally in the direction of the roof, the standing roof board boards “go up” and run parallel up the sloping roof slope.
In addition to an indoor application, the wood can be used in a canopy, shed or carport, for example. Keep in mind that the boards continue to continuously adjust to the moisture content of the outside air. A dry period in spring, for example, causes the boards to shrink in width. The half-wood profile ensures that one cannot “see through” the boards. When installing, make sure the boards have room to work widthwise for an outdoor application; enough spacing between boards is essential.
French oak roof boarding is planed on both sides so the boards are tight and straight. After planing, the light color of the wood becomes clearly visible.
It is not necessarily necessary to treat the oak roof boarding with an oil or varnish. The wood will discolor a little anyway and it will become a little duller. Leaving the wood untreated gives the most natural look. Should the preference be to do treat the wood, an oil or varnish of your choice can be used. Always test this on a sample piece first before treating the entire roof with it. Such treatment cannot be undone in most cases.
Oak roof boarding falls into a higher price range compared to softwood or pine roof boarding. The price depends on the desired width and length of the boards. The wider or longer the board, the pricier. Calculate how many square meters are needed for the roof, provide this along with the desired dimensions and we will provide a custom quote.

Most batches of oak roof boarding have lengths between 2 and 3 meters. The required length depends on the spacing of the purlins or rails. Try to keep the sawing loss as low as possible and choose a multiple of this spacing.
