Wood / Reclaimed wood beams / Reclaimed mooring posts
Reclaimed lake poles originating mainly from Dutch waterworks.
Reclaimed wood from our own soil, in other words.
Questions about Reclaimed mooring posts?
Whatsapp usWhat are bollards? A bollard is a heavy beam standing upright in the waterway.
Mooring posts are used in brakes, a structure in water used to slow down vessels as they approach a bridge or lock, for example.
The wooden poles are also used to fasten a boat or ship to, and to prevent collisions between vessels and bridges.
Hence, bollards are often found in densely populated waterfront areas or harbors.
The mooring posts are also called dowel piles.
Because the wood is in continuous contact with water, a certain hardness is required.
Oak and tropical hardwood meet these requirements.
The Netherlands is known worldwide for its many hydraulic structures.
This is exactly the reason why most of these old mooring posts come from Dutch soil.
When a retaining structure is replaced, the old mooring posts are released.
Because the piles are largely under water, oxygen has not had the opportunity to rot the wood.
Hence, these old poles are often in top condition; the wood is ready to be used in a new (construction) project.
The lake posts are in stock in different wood species and sizes.
The majority is tropical hardwood: Azobe, Basralocus or Greenheart.
A smaller part is oak.
A hardwood pole usually has a heavy head size of 25×25 cm, 30×30 cm, 35×35 cm or 40×40 cm with lengths up to 14 meters.
Feel free to request a quote for more information on current stock.
The mooring posts are very strong; the wood is suitable as building and construction timber.
The mooring posts can also be used as load-bearing beams.
Always have the dimensions calculated by a structural engineer.
Old (hardwood) lake posts are suitable for outdoor garden applications.
The wood is very durable.
It is possible to put the posts in the ground for decoration, or to hang a large fence from them.
Shorter lengths of the old mooring posts can be used as pedestals or columns.
It can be beautiful to present an art object on such an old wooden pedestal.
Or, for example, a bunch of flowers.
It is also a creative idea to make a lamp out of it.
Plenty of applications for this old wood.
Old wood posts are in stock in a variety of tropical hardwoods: Azobe, Basralocus and Greenheart.
The wood is very strong and ready for a new application.
Azobé is a very hard and durable type of wood.
In the past it has been widely used in hydraulic engineering.
Think of lock gates, jetties, bridges but also mooring posts.
A fun fact: the wood is heavier than water.
Basralocus used to be used a lot in hydraulic engineering.
Because the hardwood posts are often very old, the surface of the old beam is hand cut.
This gives the beams a quirky character.
Greenheart is a well-known tropical hardwood species with an attractive, yellowish color.
A small portion of the lake posts or dowel piles that came in were cut from oak at the time.
Most of these posts are not sharp-edged: the rounded sides of the tree are still clearly visible.
Together with the blue-gray color tones on the golden yellow oak, this is wood that has a special look.
Oak in water construction can be susceptible to pile worm when the poles come from salt or brackish water.
The result: a beautifully lived-in surface of the wood!
The prices of old lake posts depend on a number of factors such as wood type and size.
Oak is pricier than tropical hardwood and a long length is comparatively pricier than a short length.
Please feel free to call to inquire.
We understand that a price estimate is desired before visiting the lumber yard.

Most tropical hardwood lake posts have a heavy head size.
That is, they are thick beams of, for example, 25×25 cm, 30×30 cm or 35×35 cm.
There are smaller lots available with smaller head sizes such as 15×15 cm or 20×20 cm, which tend to be oak mooring posts.
Keep in mind that an old mooring post is usually not dimensionally stable: the head size is not exactly the same along the length of the beam.

Several long lengths are available of the old lake posts such as 6 meters, 7 meters, 8 meters or 9 meters.
Shorter lengths for uprights of 2 meters or 3 meters are also in stock.
In addition, there is a choice of various pedestals.
We specialize in supplying long old lake piles with lengths up to 14 meters.
Air dried oak beams are an excellent choice for construction projects that require durable, stable, and visually appealing wood. As the term suggests, these oak beams are naturally dried in open-air...
Reclaimed oak beams from the 18th or 19th century add character to a room, both inside and out. They give a room the cachet and radiance that only old oak beams can achieve. In that regard, let the...
