18th century beams narrowly saved from destruction

Old oak recovery child beams

A bizarre story: 18th century old oak child beams narrowly saved from destruction.

Last week we received a batch of oak child beams originating from Castle Boekenberg. The Antwerp castle was to be converted into several apartments; the supporting nut beams were still strong enough and would be retained during the renovation.

Now this morning we read the sad news that the castle has been completely destroyed by a major fire. It is a bizarre thought that only a week ago the oak child beams were still in the supporting structure of the old castle.
